A selection of photos, Pauline and campaign supporters.
You are invited!
I entered a 3-hour walk-run marathon to raise money for the Centreville Park on August 8. Walked 17.5 kilometres in 3-hours, won a silver award, and not an ache or pain the next day. Guess that means that I am fit to be your Mayor!
Was recruited to volunteer for Berwick Gala Days by my friend Anna Morton. Anna and I served together when I was Chairperson of Kings Transit and Anna was the Town of Berwick's representative. A bonus was meeting Rob Buchan on August 31, as we were paired as volunteers on the ticket booth.
Yep. Back in Tremont on September 8, to scratch the itch we had to learn more about the cemetery. Noticed on Valley Events that the AGM was happening and off we went to see what we could learn. This is an amazing place, where Sir Charles Tupper was buried, exhumed, moved to Halifax, etc. So much more to learn about the many volunteer organizations in West Kings. Bonus was hearing two of my favourite hymns sung by MLA Chris Parker.
Our canvassers' campaign hats arrived August 31 from Imprintables in Kingston. Thanks Lance for the great prices and job. Our canvassers, like Brenda Hambling, are loving them.
Checked out Tiny Meadows on August 27. The facility was surprizing impressive! In conversations with the staff it became very apparent that this strategy to temporarily house individuals who find themselves in very low income circumstances has great potential. Let's all get onside and see how we can support this effort.
My husband (of 49-years) and I attended the roast beef dinner celebration on the eve of the Tremont World Fair (August 30). We enjoyed the company of Gloria Troop who told us a lot about the Tremont Cemetery directly behind the hall. Intrigued, following the dinner and with night approaching we decided we had to go on an exploration another day. Thankyou to the Church of the Nazarene's volunteers for the fabulous meal.
This meringue was baked as an entry for my campaign by my dear, new friend Tetyana who fled the war in Ukraine with her twin children. Big shout out! It won first prize in the special dessert category.
Our campaign entered the dessert contest for Gala Days. On Friday, I dropped off a pie baked by me. It won first prize for an apple-based dessert. Well done me. Well done Grace Walsh who volunteered with this aspect of Gala Days.
Gala Days Parade, September 2. Thank you Pierre Clouthier for driving the campaign car so carefully, Elizabeth for helping her Gran Gran greet the crowd, Monique and Barry for handing out bracelets and buttons along the way, Valley Hoopers for music and entertainment along the way and parade attendees for such a warm welcome!
A word about my campaign signs. I asked all candidates to forego plastic lawn signs. Alas, that was not to be. My lawn signs are the smaller ones shown here and are made by campaign volunteers from pickets and then stencilled. My campaign highway signs are coroplast. We restricted the use of plastic by reducing the size from 4 by 4 feet to 19" by 4 feet, a 60 percent reduction in the use of plastic.
A big shout out to Craig Gibson, retired RCMP. Craig played a key role in community consultations leading to the path taken to a meaningful apology to people of African Nova Scotian descent and today's action plan. As a resource person to the Valley African Nova Scotia Development Association's board, I worked with, and learned so much from Craig.
With Les Clements at the Gibson Woods Community Hall to hear the apology for systemic racism in the RCMP. The Assistant Commissioner, Dennis Daley, was streamlined from North Preston to many of the historic African Nova Scotian communities across the province.
County wide mailout created by the board of Grand View Manor during my term as Chairwoman and our successful push for a new facility where all residents will have a private room.
The Gibson family at the opening ceremony of Jaimie Peerless' brilliantly designed and executed Bryan Gibson mural. I was thrilled to hear Jaimie acknowledge the significant role I played to ensure the funds were available to complete this tribute.
Canada Day celebrations are a very special part of my "Canadian by Choice" life here in Nova Scotia, the place I am so proud to call home.
Get online and vote! Oct 10 at noon until October 19 at seven.
Greta Thunberg is a constant reminder to me that grandparents need to act on the youngest generation's demand for climate action. They are right to be frustrated with how little has been done since the 70s when it became evident we needed to act to stop the climate crisis.
County wide mailout created by the board of Grand View Manor during my term as Chairwoman and our successful push for a new facility where all residents will have a private room.
One of the families Gerry and I picked up at the Halifax airport when they left Ukraine due to Russia's invasion. New, forever friends.
In 2020, when I resigned my council seat, I believed the county was on a track to roll out more strategies to see Kings County become a greener municipality. In 2024, that work, and more work still needs a major push forward.
Bringing support to the JiJuktu'kwejk Watershed Alliance to help fund their summer student restoration work on the Cornwallis River.
An after hours visit to council chambers to introduce baby Elizabeth to her Gran Gran's municipal world.
Proud to be at my friend Geraldine Brown's induction to the Order of Nova Scotia. A much deserved recognition of a decades long battle to fight racism in its many forms.
Canvassing in Canaan Heights. At the doorstep of my friend and council colleague during 2012-2020. Thanks Jim for all the support over the years of our service.
Look who I met on Peter Clothier's doorstep while canvassing on August 21. Christina Sappingtom is running for the council seat in District 8, New Minas/Greenwich.
Canvassing with John McNeil and Barry Leslie in Foxhill where a community playground is enjoyed by the children thanks to the work of a community association's volunteers.
With Joe Benjamin at one of the community forums held to update the progress of the Solar Project to be installed on the old municipal "dump" site. Thank you Joe for your support since we first met in 2012.
Nomination Party, August 29. So lovely to see friends both old and new show up happy and willing to work. In it to win it!
Nomination Party, August 29, We all enjoyed lots of yummy food and treats prepared by campaign supporters. Lovely to welcome Bruce MacArthur, a retired, longterm employee at the county and active community volunteer in New Minas to our campaign team!
Nomination Party, August 29. Christina Sappington is running in District 8, New Minas/Greenwich in this year's election. Seen here with Pierre Clothier, Gerald Cudmore (my hubby) and Ron MacInnis who travelled all the way back to the valley from the South Shore to wish us well.
Centreville and District friends Pat and Budd Murphy, as well as Anne Marie Waterbury with campaign canvass organizer extraordinaire Barry Leslie. Nomination party, August 29.
With Chief Jason Ripley and Rewind 89.3 Darrin Harvey at the October 21 Food Bank Drive. I hope a modest $100 personal donation might result in a list of similar donations from other Mayor and/or Councillor candidates. Darrin gave a shout out to all.
Father/daughter time at the Centreville Big Breakfast, September 21. Clever, cute and adored!
A full house at the Centreville Big Breakfast, September 21, kept all us table waiters on our toes for a few hours and the cooks in the kitchen busy!
Guests seem to think that the best community breakfasts are served at the Centreville Hall each third Saturday of the month. Worth repeating! But the real value is catching up with everyone.
Long Table Social Club's last Cooking with Fire night of the season, September 20. Loved listening to entrepreneurs Brenda Johnson and Robin Steward share their success stories. Bot have creating community gathering spaces using their love of music and/or food.
This was a fabulous time at Long Table Social Club's last Cooking with Fire night of the season, September 20.
Robin Stewart has created a fabulous venue for music and food right on shores of Scotts Bay. A truly relaxing end to a busy campaign day filled with support from Georgie and John McNeil and others. We arrived as dusk was dropping and found it hard to drag ourselves away a few hours later.
Arriving a few minutes late to check out the chair exercise group at the White Rock Community Hall. A group of 16 strengthening muscles and having fun together. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome on September 21.
Who you goin' call? Friends and supporters of the campaign gathering at afternoon drive time at Belcher and Middle Dyke to greet travellers, September 20. Thanks Everyone for all the honks and waves!
